2004 ranger edge won't start
Here is a bit of knowledge for all the 2004 ranger edges out there. I ran into a problem with my ranger. The other day It had a bit of trouble starting. It took about 3 seconds to start. I shut it off and tried to duplicate it. After a few tries it would not start. It tried but then would shut off. After trying to start it maybe like 5 times, it just stopped trying to fire up. That is it won't attempt to start. I checked the fuel inertia switch but it had not tripped and I tried to disco the connector but it was stuck. I checked the fuel rail air outlet nozzle and nothing was there. No fuel what so ever. I swapped the fuel relay in the engine bay. Tried to start and still nothing. Swapped in a new fuel pump. Went to start it and still nothing. Swapped fuel filter and went to start and still nothing. Removed fuel inertia switch to disconnect the connector and eureka there it was behind the switch. The connector had melted inside the switch. I cut the switch off to bypass it. Twisted the wires together. Went to start and it fired right up. Hope this helps. God bless the quiet ones.

Here's the short version. First check the inertia switch by resetting. If that doesn't work remove the inertia switch and jump the wires. If that doesn't work. Spray starter fluid into the air intake. If it starts that is because you have spark outta the coil pack. That is a good sign. Next swap the fuel relay. If that doesn't work, change the filter and if that doesn't work it maybe your fuel pump has failed. At this point decide whether you want to take it to the dealer or swap a 300$ fuel pump. Your call. Take care and God bless the quiet ones.
