ZF6 Shifter Cab Silencer... Make your cab quieter....

So I got your attention? If you've got a manual transmission tell me what you think of this idea...

I was installing my new short throw shifter a week or so back but needed a star bit to finish my install. I had already unscrewed my shifter boot but did not want to reverse my progress so I left it unscrewed while I went to the parts store. I was amazed how much louder it was in the cab with the shifter boot being unscrewed... There is already a rubber lining built into the shifter boot assembly (I assume its a noise dampener).

Anyways... You can probably guess where I'm going with this. I propose an additional rubber mat that installs between the shifter and shifter boot. Maybe even some form of insulator to reduce noise. I think that it could make a large difference...

What does everything think? Some of you might have already done something like this.

Maybe a little bubble wrap would help. I might just try it.

I was thinking Dynamat this morning too.

If I want noise, I just crack a window and my rear window slider to hear from 5" stacks... Doesn't get much louder than that.

I've stuck some raammat and that foam padding they sell under mine after I noticed the same thing. It didn't really make much difference. The key is to keep that magical boot tightened down. Don't know how that little piece of rubber can hide so much noise, but I wish they would have lined my whole cab with that stuff.

I actually just did my truck in second skin and was amazed at the difference it makes. Probably would be even better if I had it as thick as I was supposed to. I have to go back and work on the shifter boot. One corner is not tightening down. If I block the corner with my hand I can hear the difference in the truck.
