Bg service 6.0l egr and air induction cleaning?
#17
Cheezit or whoever.... my truck, '05 6.0 has 85,000 miles on it, started running rough about 9 months ago. They have changed out some injectors, I have had it in the ford shop at least 4 times, last time I got fanged $1100 bucks for FICM, ran good for awhile, now running rough, CEL on. I bring it in and they now want $3800 to clean out carbon and soot which is causing EGR valve failure. They said it was too far gone to treat it chemically, and it was possible some $800 turbo part may need to be replaced. Service rep is a good dude, he went to FMC and tried to get them to cover it but got shot down (loyal customer program?) They are trying some other angle but I do not have high hopes at this point. They definately haven't heard the last from me on this. When this all got started I was in warranty but now I am not. I unfortunately live in California, so EGR delete option a little dicey, if I could do it stealth and not throw codes or decrease my boost I would do it, but I would not know were to get this done. I want to drive the wheels off this truck, I have it set up exactly like I want it, so am worried about the future. I am frustrated! I know even if I pay to get all this crap out of my engine its going to start accumulate again as soon as I drive off the lot. The dealer charges $800.00 for the chemical treatment, I can't afford this as regular maintenance. Soooo my dilemma is what can I do to prevent this from happening again? If someone says buy a dodge or chevy I'm gonna find you and sock you up <grin>. Is there some cheap scheduled maintenance I should add? If so, what? Any ideas?

fisrt all $800 is a rip for that "induction service". but thats my opinion.
$3800 I woudl have to see how they are getting that number. I dont know what the labor rate in Ca is any more but that seems to be about $1000.00 to high.
if all oyu have is excessive carbon in the intake then its just a matter of removeing the intake and cleaning it. possibly replaceing the egr cooler if its loaded too. I dont know what else the truck would require based on the info you have provided.

ok so far as the $800 tubro part that would be the center section. that would need to be replaced if it could not be cleaned.
to prevent the issue....
well you really cant. you can install an updated turbo drain tube, make sure the cooling system works correctly, make sure you dont have injector issues, make sure your ficm voltage is good, varifiy the charging system is working. dont idle the truck, use good fuel (not really an issue in ca). use a cetain booster.
