New member to the board, just thought I'd introduce myself (well mostly my truck). This is my '69 2wd F100 with an FE 360 and three on the tree. I bought it for camping, hunting, fishing, and (mostly) work around the house. My daily is an '02 town car that's nerve racking to take to the lake and simply won't work for dump runs. Great cruiser though. Anyway, my plans are to make the truck look half way decent and maybe add a little power, but nothing major. The short list right now is new trim, bumpers, head liner, and visors.

Here she is when I bought her a week ago. Missing a drivers side mirror and in need of some serious polishing. Seller wanted $950, I got it for $800 "as long as you take the stuff in the back" (old table, ratty rugs, and a broken shop vac).

After I got her home. I bought a long bed for a reason, so the first thing I did after I parked her was remove the tool box. Then I washed her and bought a cheap buffer and buff and waxed her. Installed a new set of low mount mirrors (driving 50 miles home w/o mirrors was a PAIN). New silverstar headlamps, which work great by the way. After that I cleaned up the engine compartment a bit and loaded up the bed for my first dump run (haven't gotten to the dump yet though).

I do have a couple of questions for you guys:
1) Is that the stock rear bumper, and what color were the rear bumpers typically?
2) What are the stock size tires?
3) Which type of wheels / hubcaps would have originally come on this truck?
4) Anyone got a spare wheel/tire they want to sell me?

Hey Salty69,
Welcome to the site. If you installed higher powered headlamps and did not power them through a relay setup, you "WILL" be replacing your headlight switch and/or possibly some burned up wiring fairly soon. Not to mention, you may get the scariest surprise of your life when your lights go off (and possibly back on and off) at a really bad time at night!!! The wiring in these trucks was barely adequate to power the old style OEM headlights, at best, when the truck was new and any new style lamp that gives more brightness is going to draw more amperage/power. If you search around in these forums you will find the link to a wiring diagram to setup a relay system, REALLY SIMPLE AND EASY. The headlights get powered from 2 relays that are powered from the battery side of your starter solenoid with a fuse. New (heavier gauge) wires from the relays to the headlights and use the power that currently goes to your headlights to actuate (turn on and off) the relays. Really quick and slick.

Thanks for the tip! These are sealed beams with a draw of 65W/55W. I believe it's just a different gas inside the bulb that gives you a whiter light. Will I still "need" relays at 65 Watts? Sounds like a good idea anyway, but I'm just trying to get a feel for how urgent it is.

Thanks for lookin' out!

Sure would be nice if you would reduce the size of them house size pictures, when posting.

The site does offer photo albums with each user id.

My apologies, I thought I had. I'll just provide a link instead.

Edit: for some reason it won't let me modify my original post. What's up with that?

The headlight wiring mod is worthwhile, if not urgent. Your new headlights will be brighter and it will help to preserve your switch, and reliability of the lights. You'll be glad you did it. Easy mod, fun and you get a good result! I vote, do it now.

Great old truck, BTW.

Some of us read the text, to try to help. It causes huge side scrolling to try to
read it with huge pictures.

When you get off your butt and go out and look at trucks, seeing pictures is not a turn on.

Thanks for the headlight link. Can someone tell me what the OE wattage was on these old trucks?

I like the size of the pic's that you posted Salty69, it makes it easier to see your ride. There are a few OLD FARTS that seem all they can do is find something negative about everyones post. I guess they don't have nothing better to do. Your ride looks nice, and don't worry about the size of your pictures. Personally, I like having the pictures in the post, instead of having to go look for them.

Russ, You need to be thankful that some of us old farts have worked hard and
put the time in to build this site into one of the most respected Ford truck sites
on the net, for you new comers to come look at pictures and complain.
