Tire pressure warning message
My son had custom wheels installed on his 2007 Explorer after one of the factory wheels were damaged. Of course, now the tire pressure warning message comes on since there are no longer any sensors in the wheels. My question is: Is it possible to have the tire pressure message turned off permanently from the trucks computer? The Ford dealer said they would not or could not do it. I assume for liability reasons. Has anyone had this operation performed?

The OEM wheels have sensors in them that pass the tire inflation pressure information on to the car's computer and thus to the instrument panel. In this case, because the Explorer has custom wheels, there are no sensors. The local Ford dealer explained that they could install new sensors in the new wheels and the cost with labor would be a bit over a thousand dollars. So, since he doesn't want to fork out that kind of cash just to monitor his tire's air pressure, he was hoping that it would be possible to simply turn off the function of the vehicle's computer, so he wouldn't have to look at the warning message on the instrument panel.
