I want to replace the A/C filter in my son's 2007 Explorer and I'd like to know what is involved in replacing it. The local Ford dealer wants 69.00 bucks to do the job and I'm sure most of that is labor.
This is supposed to be just a small paper type air filter that cleans the air sucked into the A/C system. I believe it is a regular maintenance item and I think it can be had for less than 10 bucks. It should be relatively easy to replace, or at least it is on my other non-Ford vehicle.
I'm not absolutely certain that this one has one, however the owners manual mentions it for those Explorers, so equipped. And the Ford dealer quoted me 69.95 to change the thing, so I would "hope" that he wasn't trying to screw me around.
Reason I asked is.........several sites that sell cabin air filters don't show one for an Explorer of any year. The Owner's Guide doesn't mention a location?
I told my wife this evening, that I'm going to call the local dealer's parts department and ask if they have the filter. Either they will have a listing, in which case, I'll ask how much it cost. Or, they will not have a listing and then I will want to know from their service department, why they were going to soak me for seventy bucks.
