MBRP Turbo Back Can you leave CAT in....?

I just ordered a Turbo Back SS exhaust for my Excursion. The exhaust guy said you don't use the cat with the turbo back system. Isn't that a personal preference..? Can you use it if you want to use it? I have heard about drone and don't want to have to deal with that so just in case, I want to be able to mount it in there.

Why would you want to install a free flowing 4" turbo back exhaust and then restrict it with a cat???

I believe you can get a resonator to cut down on the drone if you want....or replace the MBRP muffler with an Aero Exhaust with built in resonator.

I think what he meant (who knows?) is that the MBRP system doesn't come with the cat. You will use yours when you put on the exhaust system, otherwise there will be a huge gap between the down pipe from the turbo and the short pipe that goes to the muffler.
Having said that, I purchased the cat delete pipe and the muff delete pipe separately. I haven't used them yet, but will be using/testing both on trips this summer.
Good luck with the system Zmock.

Also the cat has one of the exhaust system hanger brackets on it so if you don't use it or the cat delete pipe (just to test the cat to make sure it is functioning...) you have to fab something to help support the balance of the system.

Great, can the exhaust place just make me a delete pipe for the cat area or does that need to be ordered? I just want to be able to switch back and forth.

you can run a TB system with the cat installed ..on long towing trips, i'll throw mine in to tone it down...if you want to pull it you need to get the cat delete test pipe as mentioned before..

I never run with a muffler anymore..

they can make you one...you can buy one for about $60...ask them for some spare downpipe to cat gaskets..they get ruined after a few change outs..

cut the studs on the cat a little shorter to make things easier to swap..after a few tries, you'll be able to change it out in about a 1/2 hour..

I'm on the road and don't have it with me, but all I did was call MBRP and order both delete pipes (cat & muff) in SS 304 to match my system. I think all they had in the catalog was the SS 409. Nice people, very helpful. And the pipes came show polished.
They look very nice on my workbench...

My apologies to the OP as I didn't realize that the turbo back systems used the existing cat. From any pics I have seen of them they looked like just straight pipe til the muffler...thanx for giving me an education!

the turbo back "off road" systems utilize a single piece of pipe from the downpipe to the muffler..that's probably what you've seen..
