Water in kickplate

I started a thread about this topic a long time ago. I have a 2004 F-150 super cab. The kick plate was filling up with water and getting the drivers side carpet wet. I never did resolve it. It's not the A/C. When gas went through he roof last year I bought a car and the truck sits a lot now. The water gets in after a good rain without the truck moving. I drilled some holes to give water someplace to go that helped some. The carpet was still getting wet. So I put about 4 rags is strategic locations to isolate where the water is coming from. We got a good rain last night, so I just checked. The rag thing worked great. The rag behind the drivers seat in the wire trough was soaked. The rest were dry. So the water is coming from somewhere in the middle back. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's running down from the back window. The carpet is completely dry in the back. Anyone else have this problem? Does the window have to come out and have the seal redone.

I thought I read somewhere on the forum of someone having a problem with the 3rd brake light having a bad seal and allowing water to enter the cab. Might be a place for you to check.

That sounds easy enough to check. The water would have to get around the window. I would think that it would come down the sides if that was the case. It's worth looking at. Stanger things have happened. I'm not looking forward to taking the back seat out. That's what I'll do next.

2004-2005 trucks had a problem with the seals on the Rear-Brake lights. Water then leaks in and down the back wall

pop that baby off and reseal it using a good automotive RTV. Make sure the stuff stays pliant and is outdoor rated.

very very common issue. Sorry it took so long to get fixed...while you are in there, suggest you silicone up those holes you drilled as well

I'm trying to remember when I got into that light to change the bulb. More than likely that's when it started. Thanks for the info. I'll wait to seal the holes in the kickplate till I'm sure it fixed. You don't think it's Ok to just leave those holes open?

Follow up.
I looked at the brake light. The #$%^ mechanic that changed the bulb on my last inpection missed the hole with one of the screws, so the light was only held in with one screw. So I'm sure it was leaking. The inpsection was only a month or so ago and I've had this problem maybe a year. I tried to get a new foam seal, they don't sell them separately from the whole light assembly. So I did something I hated doing. I silicone caulked the light in. So it's been over two weeks with no water getting in, and it's rained a lot. So I go out yesterday to put the back seat back in. I took the whole rear seat out to be sure I had fixed the leak, and to get it dry. There was a good bit of rust so I wire wheeled and painted the rusted area's. So I get my tools together I open the door and there is lots of condensation everywhere.

The only thing I came up with is, it's been pretty humid and fairly hot. I guess there was still water in the carpet. So instead of putting it back together I took more apart. I had tried to get the passanger seat out when I did the rear seat and could only get 3 out of four bolts out. So I did the center seat and driver seat. There was still a lot of water in the wireing harnes and in the trough for the wires. I really went to town and unwrapped all the wires and dried it out and blew it out. I was able to get at the kick plate easier with the wires unwrapped so I wire wheeled all the rust out of the kick plate. I'm going to paint it today.

Wow I was always curious what my floorboard looked like under the carpet. I would think it was just some left over water you were seeing. At least now if it rains you can really tell where it is coming from. If it is leaking from the back of the cab I have only heard of the rear brake light causing the problem.
