[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Mar-02 AT 10:41 AM (EST)]Depends on which side of the fork. If it's on the engaging side, I would say that is a possibility. In that case, the slider may not completely engage the clutching teeth on the 3rd gear, allowing the trans to "jump out."
Does the slider have a definate "click" from the synchronizer when you engage it with a big screwdriver? If not, you may have synchro problems.

The engaging side is the one that pushes the slider into the 3rd gear's clutching teeth. Watching the shifter as you put it into 3rd may help.
