problems with tps

i have an 04' explorer 4.0 v6. I was detailing to take on vacation last week and lightly washed the engine with some z green engine detailer at the fire house the day before leaving. drove 200miles the heber springs, AR with no problems. the night after we got there i had the car idling while buying some ice and it turned off. sounded like someone simply turned the ignition off. went to restart and the digital info screen said low oil pressure/engine failsafe mode. i immediately checked oil leverl, ok. unplugged the oil pressure sender and cleaned contacts. still no luck. after 20 min it briefly cranked and ran fine and read the normal oil pressure level. then repeated the same as before. luckily i was only half a mile from jaysen jones ford in heber so i limped it there at 5mph. they were very helpful and scanned it for free. long story short they said that there was a "bulletin" on the tps.(throttle position sensor) and the fix requires a new tps which requires recalibration of the computer. $221.00 dollars later and 2 days later i was on the road again. The mechanic there said its a faulty gasket/flaw in the tps. Is the "bulletin" Fords way of geting around a recall? and has anyone else had this prolem? Also why did it read low oil pressure if the problem was the tps?
