Hooking iPOD to Factory Stereo

Wanting to attach my iPOD/iPhone to my 99 Factory radio. Wondering if anyone has done this without using the cassette or thru the FM station (88.1Mhz etc.)

I used to have a FM transmitter for mine that would allow you to play it through a few different FM stations.. It worked OK ! Mine's way better now hooked directly to my AVIC D3 system.

Thats a nice setup. But my current radio works ok. I've tried that radio thing but lost alot in the sound quality. Got to be a cheap way to get into the radio, somehow.

Don't they make something that plugs inline with the antenna cable?

I used the hard wired FM transmitter from Ford- called "TripTunes" Part Number: 6R3Z-19A464-AA.
It is listed for the newer trucks but will work on anything (just need to connect power, antenna, and 3.5mm jack).
I used it in my 06 F150 lease (stock radio), my '02 PSD (on stock radio before my Pioneer unit) and it is currently in my '79 F250 (hooked to a Pioneer deck)
This option is still on FM frequencies though so you can get interference but not nearly what you get with the over the air transmitters.

Can also try Google search for "Ford Auxillary Input" for other options.
I believe PIE makes an adapter that uses the AUX button if your radio has one - Part Number: FRDN-AUX
This option would be a direct feed into the radio rather than FM

I believe both options would cost about the same
Hope that helps

Ryan,
Do you know if the factory radio with cd has the option for a cd changer? One web site mentioned that it required plugging into the cd changer output. I have neve looked at the back of the factory unit.

I'm not totally sure. I thought the only option for a factory cd changer was the 6 disc in-dash but I could be wrong. You could just pull the radio and look at the back. The tools are a couple $'s from a parts store or Walmart even and make pulling the radio really easy.

Mine has a tape deck, so I just use one of those cassette tape adapter things. Here is the exact one I use:

Of course, if you don't have the deck with both CD *and* cassette tape player, you need the FM modulator or that other trick. I heard about it, but never bothered since I the tape adapter works perfect for me.

I liked the FM transmitter but there was too many stations in the Denver area and had bleed over all the time. Ended up getting a nice Sony head unit with IPOD controls from Crutchfield.com for $129.00 that included everything - harness adapter, install kit, Ford DIN removal tools.

Last year. Usually any stereo head unit over $129.00 has free shipping also. You should check it out.

That right there is going to sound better than any FM transmitter, trust me. Those things sound about as good as an AM radio station.

My advice is ditch the factory radio and get a good aftermarket deck with an AUX jack. That's what I did and my stereo sounds sonic.
