I appreciate it! I got some GT badges and of course the running pony, I need to make an F-stang one unless someone comes up with something better.

i got some cherry bomb's i'll be putting on tomorrow. I'm shooting for the exhaust to dump infront of the rear wheels one on each side. Should look and sound great. more pics to come. I'll try to get some convaluted tubing to loom all the wires and clean them up a little. Hope fully my dipstick tube for the tranny and engine oil pan come soon then it'll go for its maiden voyage. I ordered some 3.73s today and the adapters to get the stang wheels to fit. I'll keep posting.

trk98-

You are the man my friend!

I started a very similar swap 3 years ago on a 95. Lots of people told me I was crazy and that it wouldn't work. Just like you I proved them wrong.

Feels great doesn't it?

Like you I encountered a ton of problems, I liked how you did the motor mounts, good work. Mine were a bit different.

I am curious about how your engine is running. The stock Mustang computer varied voltage to the fuel pump to control fuel pressure depending on demand. But now you have a return style set of rails on your engine and I see a vacuum line going to a fuel pressure regulator on the rail. I think this is going to drive the computer nuts! Are you having any drivability issues?

I used a set of Crown Vic rails on my swap. But I didn't use the factory computer. I built my own ECU.

If you are interested here is a link to my swap.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...s-in-here.html

Keep up the good work. Some of us are just trailblazers I guess!

Underhood pic for ya. Look familiar?

PJF95, I know you used the 6-cyl mounts on your project and jacked up the motor, is that to clear the oil pan? I am trying to use the 302 mounts on mine so the oil filter will line up with the hole in the frame like trk98 (doing this on a '91 Bronco) but the truck intake is too tall, I gotta get one from a car before I can proceed. I could use the truck intake I think if I used 6-cyl mounts and brought the engine forward as you did, but mine is 4x4 so I gotta keep driveshaft lengths in mind.

I have a spare oil filter adaptor from a 98 pickup with a 4.6. It mounts between the block and engine mount, so it will raise your engine 3/4 inch, but relocate the oil filter to behind the cross member. With a car intake it should work you.

PJF, your engine bay is CLEAN!!!! I im in the process of cleaning up my spaghetti dinner! The truck runs amazing! The computer has no control over the fuel pressure anymore, The fuel rail sensor is disconnected and the fuel pump control module is history. Even though the computer cant control the fuel pressure, it can notice that the pressure is changing verified by Long and Short term fuel trim values. It goes into closed loop and manages itself from all the inputs so it basically has the same control system as a crown vic or f150. So in short there are no driveability concerns. I'm glad you found this thread, we 3 are pioneers, well you are but i wasn't aware anyone else had done this swap. I'm so excited that i'm not the only one. I havent really gotten to drive it because the gears and tires are so tall. I took it down the street yesterday but its a slug with 3.08s and 29inch tall tires. I bet you'll be throwing that turbo back on haha. I'm sure we'll be talkin more. Great job on your truck man!!!

Yep, oil pan clearance was a major factor for me. But also, since I used the 6 cyl, mounts I was having a lot of trouble with the oil filter hitting the crossmember. I bought a very expensive Moroso adapter to remedy this. trk98 Did a much better job of solving the problem than I did. Follow his lead. As far as driveshafts go, they can be made at a good driveshaft shop for relatively little money. If you can find a way to stuff that engine in there then you can EASILY have a driveshaft made to any length and with whatever u-joints you need on both ends. I wish I could get back the money I have spent on custom driveshafts over the years for all my crazy projects, it would keep me stocked with beer for ages!

Good luck with your project. I thought I was hardcore for attempting this with a 2WD. I admire your courage in taking on the 4WD challenge. That thing is gonna kick butt! I know you will get it going. Anyone who starts a project like this is just too hard headed to quit!

Thanks on the engine bay cleanliness trk98. I like to try and make my installs look neat.

I have to tell you, at only 22 years old you have got some amazing skills. I am 36 and have been fooling around with this stuff since I was 15. But at 22 I would have never attempted what you did. And more amazingly you made it happen in only a few days. You have a bright future in the automotive field if you want. I am impressed. Your understanding of Ford ECM's is very, very impressive. Good work!

It is pretty cool that the 3 pioneers have all come together in this thread isn't it? When I first started on this I figured there had to be others out there who had done it, but this thread is the first I have seen of someone else attempting this, and not just one guy, but two! We need to all meet up and hoist a cold one.

I can imagine how much of a dog your truck is with the 3.08's and the 29 inch tall tires. These little 4.6's like to turn up. Get some gears in there and prepare to be wowed. Don't be afraid to spin that thing. They will make a surprising amount of power for so few cubic inches. I also have to say that these motors sound simply INCREDIBLE. Who would have known that 281 cubic inches could so easily sound like 400+?!?!?!

I am very anxious to get the turbo back on my truck. I am taking her to the dyno sometime in the next couple of weeks. I have gotten the street tune to the point where she runs and drives as good, or better, than if Ford had put the 4.6 in her back in 1995. So my final test will be to see how much I can wring out naturally aspirated on the dyno. From there I will just enjoy driving her for the rest of this year. Then this coming winter I will do a whole new turbo install and be ready to terrorize the streets come Spring of 2010.

400 WHP in a 15 year old truck that looks like grandpa should be driving it, THAT is what I am talking about.

How about GT-150? Heart of a GT into a F150. Cool project, mad props to you for doing this w/ all the naysayers on these sites.

The 4.6L swap I am doing (very slowly) on my Bronco is sort of a proof-of-concept for my ultimate long-term goal to put a 5.4L w/6-speed in my F150. I just went with the 4.6L this go because I got the whole donor truck for $600. The Bronco is a toy, it doesn't really matter how long it takes me to finish this deal so what I learn can then be applied to the F150 for a faster turnaround.

As far as driveshafts go, they can be made at a good driveshaft shop for relatively little money.
Understood, it's just I don't want to get the front driveshaft too short to where it binds up off-road.

gt-150 might be the way i go, thats awsome!!! Thanks to those with the compliments I appreciate it! As far as the 5.4, I would love to see that, it would be a challenge because the deck height its like 1.5 - 2 inches taller, and its already a squeeze but we all know anything can be done!!!

I just got the oil pan in and i just dropped the tranny pan to inspect and freshen things up. I got my wheel adapters, painted the calipers red, the drums black, and installed the 17" mustang gt wheels. It needs to be lowered like 7" now, but ill have pics up hopefully later today.

I'd be very interested to know about how you wired all this up - what did you do about the speed sensor hookup, did you use the one on your trans or the one in the rearend? Did you use the Mustang engine/trans wiring harnesses? Where did you mount your ECU? These are just a few of the issues I am putting off until I can get my motor mounted properly.

I used a mustang harness/computer/powertrain/guage cluster. The pcm is under the hood right now, i'm embarrassed thats why i didn't take a closer pic but i will. I didn't cut any of the factory sensor wires to the ecu, just power and ground, a/c request, and o/d command wires. The speed sensor for the mustang is in the transmission and doesnt resemble the older style speed sensors that look like a speed-o cable without the cable. The speed sensor on the rear end i thought is for the RABS on my truck ('89). My truck has a speedo cable but i can't use it. The 4r70w tranny i'm using has a hole for the speedo cable but there's no gear inside to drive it, and has a plug in it from the factory. The mustang guage cluster gets its speed reading from the ecu, so that works. I can't remeber or don't know how the newer style trucks get their speed signal. I have acess to ALLDATA and will try too look for you if you want. What are you running for computer? What year? What trans? I'll do my best to help you if someone doesnt before me.
