I have a 78 F-100 2wd with a 302 and a Tremac 3.03 3spd. I run a 4.10 rear end to pull a med size trailer and would like to add an OD for when solo. I know a T-5 swap is reasonably easy with a one inch spacer or a T-5 bellhousing, but I was thinking a late seventies/early eighties SMOD or SROD (3spd with a fourth gear OD)should be a direct bolt in swap. Does anyone know this for sure? anybody out there been her done this? TIA.

If your considering one of the 3sp+OD, I would suggest the RUG_CL that came in some vans and trucks. I have posted some questions on this tranny at the Big Six Performance website and have received a lot of info. I do know that everyone says the SROD is to weak and prone to failure especially when used to tow. The RUG is an iron cased Ford Toploader that is much stronger.:P
