I have this from a junkyard:

What is the orange/blue-hash wire for? From what I can tell, it might be the thing that
kicks a power antenna into action?

Ok, so according to this one, it just said Blue. BUT for the Topaz that I had, the power antenna was blue and orange, same with my brothers Escort and Explorer.
I would say yes, power antenna

It's hooked into the power button, or on the old shaft and **** radios, the on/off switch on the volume control.
