Everytime I go to local welding supply store I get a reminder of what cars the 70s had to offer. Sitting next to the lot is a baby blue 1977 mustang, in good shape too. What a turd, has to be one the low points in Ford's history. Of course at that time other manufacturer's cars were not too hot either.

You know Ford made a 79 Thunderbird which was really a nice looking car. I always wanted one off those. Kind off ironic that Ford has been making the Mustang for 45 years. And off course the latest one is awesome.

I guess its a matter of personal preference, most of all the miles I've ever driven was with a reliable drivetrain like my 78 Mercury Marquis 460, c6 auto 9" rear so I stay with what Im familar with. My car has 4 wheel disk brakes with hydroboost, incredible stopping power along with sway bars front and rear so for a 4,700 pound car it handles curves really well. Even though the engines were choked down during the mid to late 70's my car came with a 460, an engine most have to swap in for it's power potential, I may stroke mine so I can have one of the biggest engines available, bigger than the great 472/500 Cadillac engines.

No shame in that. My old pontiac had a Pontiac 350 in it ( the old days when there was more than just chevy) and was by no means slow. Had disc brakes that could lock all 4 on cue (actually stops better than my super duty) rode smooth and cornered decent for a fairly large car. smaller than yours though.

150 Ford: My fiend currently use 79 T birds for out street stock oval track cars. We are the lone fords at out track. both powere by 351C engines.

I will not buy an inferior product when there is a much better alternative for the same price. The idea that people should feel bad for buying foreign is ridiculous. If the American auot companies want sales, they should have to do it the old fashioned way. That is by making a profitable, marketable product that people want to buy!

Back on topic, GM just exited bankruptcy. WE (us taxpayers) and the UAW now own it! At least with Chrysler it was sold, how a bankruptcy is supposed to work. This is nuts! Ford is now competing with the government, who writes the regulations for carmakers. What a conflict of interest. Now, if you buy a Ford, you are taking money away from yourself.

So does that mean once our personal tax bill meets or exceeds the sticker price of a GM auto that one becomes our own?

I saw on one of the news channels that GM is trying to strike a deal with Ebay to sell NEW GM cars on Ebay motors.

Even though I as a taxpayer now have somewhat of a financial interest in GM that still doesn't mean I'd even consider buying a GM vehicle. I've actually read/heard many people say they are done with GM because of this whole bailout deal. Our current administration seems to favor doing such deals though.

Yeah,my grandfather has been a "nothing but American cars" guy for the last 65 years.Just this last Friday he said",Yep,due to the state of American cars,I think the next one's gonna be a foreign job." I had to do a triple take.

Toyota employs 1000s of American workers and creates billions in US economic activity.
