Turbo air guide (tag) info

I was browsing around on puredieselpower.com website, and ran across this thing.

03-05 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel Turbo Air Guide TAG

It looks like a small honeycomb piece that helps "straighten" the direction of the air before it enters the turbo. It sounds good in theory, but it appears that it actually decreases the area for air to enter the turbo.

I have seen gimmicks in times past that were supposed to molecularly align gas (magnets) or whirl the air into the intake (??), but nothing ever works. Just crap.

Does anyone have any experience with this item? If they do, please give some info about it. Thanks.

The air doesn't need to be "straightened" before it goes into the turbo. If anything, it would be helpful to straighten the flow on the discharge side of the compressor housing, not the inlet.

Yes, it is a restriction.

The last one I saw installed lasted about a month before a piece broke off and was ingested by the turbo. The turbo lost that fight.

My opinion is save your money.

Thanks. I thought it was a crock. Just wanted affirmation of my gut feeling. Thanks again.

There was a huge debate back about 4 years ago with the TAG and TAG II. So a few folks finally threw them into their trucks, ran on the dyno and posted their results. In every single case, they actually lost power.

Thanks again (Pocket). There are too many good things that actually do good for the truck to waste $$ on those that don't. The cab is off my truck and the transformation is happening as I write. A beautiful butterfly, so to speak, is about to emerge. (ARP headstuds/SS EGR Cooler/oil filter/HPOP filter/Banks Intercooler & Intake/AFE filter already installed/2008 trans pan & filter-pickup/SCT X3 custom tuned by Innovative). I can't wait.

Just found out that the Turbo is cracked, so add that to the list of new items (ARP studs/Banks Intercooler kit/SS EGR Cooler/MAF&EGR sensors/NEW Turbo). Wow, this ain't gonna be cheap. BUt I'm itchin' to get it back. Really itchin'.
