Yeah, he really did a nice job with that build. Before I got the Blue Beast I had actually considered the merits of a 4WD van, maybe a Sportsmobile or Quigley conversion. Obviously I decided against it. That thread certainly does give me plenty of ideas, though.

 

it is actually the reverse, the aux is 19.5 to 20 gals and the rear is 19.5 gal capacity....or now when i fill i only can put in 15 gals, my rear tank pick up tube may have broke off.... lol

as far as brake light [Main], mine comes on once in awhile so i had wheel cylinders checked and both rear are leaking slightly, but not enough to cause the brake light to stay on... yes the emergency will stay on because if the pedal is depressed it is the light on the left, if the light on the right comes on it is system light....may be the vacuum booster is failing also which will trigger the light to come on intermittently...

i have a F250 XLT Lariat model, with stock rear fuel which is causing me problems... i have heard that ford makes a stock 38 gallon replacement tank for diesel whose capacity is 38 gallons.......

anyone know if there are other sources for purchasing this item? I have had no luck so far locating this tank. some one referred me to the '64 Bronco tank but it is galvanized so wont work for diesel.........is there an after market supplier who may be able to help?

Couple thoughts:

1) The low vaccum switch on these is flaky. I've seen the same problem on my trucks even though the vacuum was fine. I think in finally got rid of the switch altogether. Check the parking brake switch too, they get flaky.

2) As far as I know, all the diesel are ~19/19 gal tanks front and rear. Never seen one with a 38 gal. You might check later trucks, at least up to 94 *should* be essentially the same.

3) The fix for not getting the last few gallon out is to pull the pickup / sender assemblies and replace the stock plastic foot unit with a short piece of hose. The stock design is a plastic foot assembly with a screen about 2" in diameter that's supposed to help ensure clean fuel and good suction. Problem is, the plastic degrades and starts leaking where it's pressed onto the rest of the pickup or just falls off completely. So as soon as you get below about 1/4 tank you start sucking air. I just stuck a piece of hose on there cut at an angle at the bottom and long enough to stop about 1/2" above the bottom. Been working fine for years.

4) The gauge problem is not that simple. The contacts on the sensor actually wear off after about 40k miles. No way to fix it without replacing the entire assembly. I installed a universal 33-240 Ohm sensor screwed to the plate where the stock sensor is on the pickup and with the stock float arm. It work reasonably well but still isn't quite right. On the rear tank I have an ISSPRO float tube type sender which was a great idea but when I got the pickups I didn't realize that they were setup for VDO sensors which are like 20-75 Ohms.... so my gauge reads 1/4 when it's full and 'F' when it's 1/4 or emptier....
