This is for a 2001 4R100 4x4 w/ 100800 miles, which the service engine light has come on. Running a code check, it comes up with a 1740 error. I believe this code is for the TCC (torque control circuit), which says I have one or two things to check/replace. (1)Failed TCC solenoid or(2) open or shorted circuit condition. Trying to do research on the net, I cannot find a diag. of this solenoid. On other manufacurers that I have found , the TCC is located from within the the trans oil pan. Is this where its at on the F150? Is it much of a deal once you get the pan off to replace? As for the open or short condition, where would one look for this problem? Is this a wiring harness coming out from somewhere on the tranny?
All control solenoids are inside the transmission.
The PCM looks at all these solenoids constantly for opens, shorts and current signitures. If one has shorted turns or sticks open or closed or is slow, in addition to operating them.
A shop that has test equipment can plug onto the harness and look at and operate all of them before taking anything apart if it is believed it is a solenoid fault.
Though it cost to have this done, the fix is quicker and more sure when things have to come apart.
Just taking the pan down and looking at everything is not much of an advancment to finding the issue. Tests have to still be done.
Good luck with it.
