E4OD in 1980 F-100?
I'm assuming it's an E4OD because it has a large multi pin plug on it.
I have a 1980 F-100 with a C6 that will need rebuilding soon. (It's slow to engage in D when cold)
The E4OD was apparently rebuilt a few years ago.
Is it possible to use this tranny in my truck?
So I guess I'm probably better off getting an AOD if I want an OD tranny.
Is there any year I should look for or they all the same? Would I need a different driveshaft?
The AOD is a weak sister trans. What level are you going to build the 351 to? As for the preferred years, '88 to '93 according to one site. Early models had oiling and other issues, and were the worst for warranty claims, garnering more warranty claims than all previous Ford automatics, according to a knowledgable source right here at FTE.
A beefed AOD is over $2000, so consider where you want to spend your money on the trans, if anywhere.
