do people use toploader 4sp anymore?
i was flipping in my '78 factory repair book and found a section on what seems to be the ford toploader 4sp. tranny. i was just curious: do people use them in there trucks? i've seen and driven them in mustangs, but just wanted to know if they are good in trucks. also, what engine's do they bolt up to besides the 302? i know that the "windsor" engines have the same belhousing( ie. 289, 300, 302, 351)

They are built to handle HP...one of the toughest boxes Ford made. They are getting harder to find since Ford stopped making them years ago, which also makes them expensive to buy. The large input splined top loaders also fit the big block FE and 385 series engines. If you race your truck the top-loader would be the way to go. If you mainly off-road and like to use the granny first-gear alot then the top-loader is not for you. Deen
