i have decided to use a c-6 in my 351w/67 f100 what year or years
should i be looking for and what would be the benefit? i know i need
to find one with the correct bolt pattern but i was told that there
is a diff betw pre 77 c-6's and post 77 c-6's and i was also wondering
if there wold be any overdrive trans that would work, ia m going to use this truck for towing and street fun on weekends mostly
Unless you want to go the manual route, only the AOD auto trannie will fit your 351 when it comes to overdrive, and unfortunately AOD's are not known for their reliability behind anything making much power.
You can yank a C6 from any 240, 300, 302, or 351W but not 351M or C. I think the clutch band material changed in the late seventies, cause my '74 C6 used Type F fluid and my '89 C6 uses Mercon. I don't think that the change affected reliability at all. C6's are almost bullet proof anyway.
