opinions on front axle right seal leaking

I was under the truck looking for the fuel filter number and noticed the right lower ball joint was damp. Had a drop of oil hanging from it but nothing on the ground where it is always parked. So, I did the google search for this site and read for about an hour on replacing the inner seal. Question that I have is can I put this off until after Memorial weekend if I don't use 4 wheel drive and top off the gear lube? I am driving 300 miles round trip for a camping weekend.

should be okay i just replaced my ball joints and have that same axle seal leaking ill post ford part # for you in about an hour, the seal is in the truck and getting ready for work...

to answer your question it should be okay to drive when the 4wheel drive isnt engaged the ring and pinion are not spinning so it should be okay.

thanks Donny. I got the seal numbers from an old post from JT Harvey as :
2-F81Z 3254CB HUB SEALS
2-F81Z 1S175HCA AXLE SEALS
But, I also found mention of an updated seal. Interested in the part numbers you have.

Under the truck looking for the fuel filter number???
You will be fine for the weekend. FWIW FTEPARTSGUY (Ed) now has a kit with everything you need- ball joints, seals, everything needed to replace both sides. Very nice kit and well worth the $, I think I spent almost $200 on one side about a year ago!

The improved axle seal (2nd design) part # is 3C3Z-3254-CA. Much better design but you pay about $10 more for it than the old.

looks like the 3C3Z3254CA has a brass dust ring on it. but mostly everyone uses the F81Z3254CB seal.

I added the baldwin fuel filter when I did the hutch/harpoon kit. I was running a carquest filter because it's local and I can get it when I decide to change it.
Thanks for all the replies. I will plan to do this soon but glad to know I can get through the weekend as is.
