Trans dipstick tube

I have a minor leak at the base of the trans dipstick tube. I assume that the tube is press in ? has an o-ring ?
I put some silicone around the area and that worked about a week, the fluid is probably eating through that type sealant.
The trans is a 4r70. Seems to me that the actual tube should be ok and having never dealt with replacing one I want a little advice before yanking it out.

first, are you a ssgt of marines? Im a corporal of marines. Second, most tranny dipsticks just pull out and theres an o ring down in there. usually a quick fix, and about a 39 cent part.

SSG is the initials of my buss. I was an e-4 in the Army working on the ah-1s cobra helo's weopons systems.

The o-ring is in the hole and not on the tube ?

dipstick tube

some Ford transmissions have a small adapter that comes out of the case and that what the actual dipstick and o-ring go into. If it is leaking were it goes into the case it is pressed and glued in at that point. Then were the dipstick goes in there is an o-ring. This dipstick adapter if you will is only about 6 inches long

The catalogue and picture do not show any type of adaptor, but there is an oring on the bottom of the dipstick. It should just pull out of the transmission and press back in. There is a bolt holding the tube to the engine that will need to be removed. Be sure to get an oring made of oil resistant rubber. Dan.

I've ran into this a few times on 4R70W's-the dipstick tube gets a bit warped during initial install, and it will leak over time. The best solution(that actually works) is to drain a couple of quarts of fluid, remove the tube, and clean the O-Ring area well. Use some Ultra-Black RTV,and place a 1/4" bead around the entire circumference of the tube above the O-Ring and place the tube back into the case. This RTV will help seal the area where the O-Ring is leaking, and you won't have this problem again. Give it an hour or so to dry before topping off the trans fluid or operating the vehicle.

I just pulled mine a couple weeks ago and I seem to think it was like a grommet that the tube went into.

You should start your own thread. This one is almost five years old and can get lost.
