Installation of flywheel

Hi all.

I have a Volvo Penta marinized 1994 Ford 302cid V8 EFI engine that I have been repairing due to salt water intrusion, and I'm almost finished. Now, my big problem is this: how do I know which bolts on the flywheel go where? I made a mark on the engine and on the flywheel when I disassembled it, but I can't find it now. On the engine there are 6 threaded holes and a 7th between two of them - which part of the flywheel do I match up with the 7th hole?

Or, do I look at the resonance damper and match it with this somehow?

Thanks for all help...

The holes look very symmetric to me. Take a look at these pictures: Index of /~obergene/ford

The only thing that marks something is the 7th hole on the engine side.

did you try to install the flywheel? If it will bolt on in any direction then I'd think it wouldnt matter wich way it goes on.

Yeah they look symetrical, but when you put the flywheel against the crank you'll see there is only one orientation where all the holes line up.

You're absolutely right, it looks like they are evenly spaced - but no, there was only one position that fit. I bit embarrasing that I didn't try this physically first...

Thanks a lot!!!

Just be glad you remembered to put it on Putting the motor in without it will do more than embarass you. You know somethings wrong when it just falls right into place from the get go
