I am (or was) building a 390 motor to put in my 66 f250.
The block has only 2 bolt holes for the motor mount, as opposed to the original 352 with 4 bolt holes. The motor mount will not bolt to the block due to the bolt pattern being narrower and set back about 2 inches.
Is there another motor mount that I can use for a 66 250 that will work on this block, or do I have to use another block?
The motor mounts that fit the block, and come the closest to bolt size and location, are from a 63-65 390/427 Galaxie.
The bolt placement in the mount is about 1/4" lower than the original truck mount and the block sits about 4" forward of its original position with the Galaxie mounts, so the oil pan will not clear the crossmember.
There is not enough room on the crossmember to move the frame mounts towards the back...so..hard (expensive) lesson learned, an FE block with 2 motor mount holes, instead of 4, will NOT work in a truck without major mods to the brackets that bolt to the frame.
I believe the 2 hole blocks were made from '58-'64 and the 4 hole blocks were '65 and up..just look at the block to verify.
You can make a plate to mount the truck engine mount on that block, I have done this in the past, using a 1/4" steel plate Mounted the plate on the engine and then the truck mount on the plate. Cost at the time I did it was less than $10.
