ramhorn routing
Hello
I finally found a pair of ramhorns, next step is to build the rest of the exhaust. I want them to come out just before the rear wheels on both sides. Also I have a pair of smithy's, they should be just in front of where the exhaust goes to the side of the truck.
My questions; is it usefull or neccesary to make an H or X crossover pipe?
And maybe some of you have some pictures to get an idea how it looks, for inspiration

The exhaust exit for my RH setup is fairly similar to your plan. They come out between the rear of the cab and front of rear fender. Later this summer I want to extend them a little further back. Glass Packs are located mostly below and inside of frame, under cab (the '46 frame is narrower than post '52s).
Before adding a Driver side RH recently, there was one RH on the PS and a front exhuasting crossover type on the DS which went into the inner fender, and swept down and back. Either my hearing is getting worse, or this current dual RH setup is 1/2 the noise of the previous mismatch. A good surprise.
No crossover "H" pipe.

Nice looking set of Rams! I see you had them ceramic coated (I did mine in the same color ceramic too! pics in my gallery.)
Did your truck come with the automatic, and did you use a stock Automatic steering column? I'd like to find a steering column also but I'm having a hard time locating one.
I am not going to do an H pipe either.
Cheers,
Rick

Hey Rick
My truck has a small case 3 speed ford-o-matic with columm shift.
According to the vin plate its original.
In low drive it starts in first and stays in first, in normal drive it starts in second gear and up to third gear. But a bit to much rpm on highway speed, axle is 3.72. First gear is nice to ruine someones driveway
I think there must be a columm to find, I will keep you in mind, in case I see one.

There is a columm on ebay right now, thats the same as mine.
search for " '56 FORD P/U STEERING COLUMN AUTO"
item number; 170330275674
But I dont know if you can use it with your tranny, with truck indicator you will have reverse, neutral, park, Low drive and normal drive, if i'm right. Car indicator has a third drive.

Thanks for the link!
I am watching it right now. It looks pretty rough. I have heard that they are hard to find and that they're not a lot different from the manual columns. I also think I might be able to use some parts from the car column...do you know anything about that?
Thanks again,
Rick

I'd do an X. They typically provide better results. Sometimes an H is easier to fit. I doubt either will be a problem with your truck. By the way, and X sounds sweet on a Y-block. I know one guy who drag races regularly. He says with the x-pipe, whether he runs mufflers or not, there is no measurable effect on his e.t. or mph.
When I had ramshorns, I had to run the pipe under the crossmember - still have to do it with headers. Yours might be the same.

Yes i think some parts can be used but I'm not 100% sure. I was digging around in some online shops and some parts look the same, like the indicator for example. The linkage from the tranny to columm will be custom made, shouldn't be a problem with some patience.
Good luck on the columm.
