Cummins is being beat up bad.
Cummins Slammed in First Quarter with 30% Sales Drop, 96% Fall in Earnings - Auto News - Truck Trend
Sales to Chrysler is down 45% this year. Chrysler will probably be gone by the end of the year so that would probably void whatever contracts they have with them. Maybe now is the time for a Cummins in the Super Duty and Ford doesn't have to pony up any more cash developing their own.
A 6.7 Cummins powered Super Duty sure would be a nice combination.

Doesn't Ford already put them in a 550-650 or atleast have the option for them?
Only thing I would be worried about is how would it be to mate the torqshift to a cummins, I don't know if they put that auto behind the 550-650s as I don't need those type of trucks. I wouldn't want that piece of crap auto that Dodge has mated to the cummins now(in fact, at one time I did have that, but it was on the early 2000 ones).

I don't know if an option on 550-650, but, FWIW, I heard a rumor a few yrs ago from a relatively reliable source, that ford was seriously looking into having a cat engine as standard diesel for super duties. One major point, in fords eyes, that could not be reconciled was that cat required the cat name displayed on the vehicle. Ford did not want to have it.

The irony is that people on their own are dropping in a Cummins into a Ford.
Bean took out the much beloved(although not be me) 7.3 to put in a Cummins(I've gotten to where I don't like the sound of an engine missing two cylinders).

No reason at all Cummings can't build a V8.....We don't want no stinkin' Durge motor in our Fords!

The Cummins is available in the F-650 and 750.
I would like to see Ford go with the cummins I6. The 6.7 I6/TS combo in a SD would be a great combo. No need for a V8 IMO. The I6 design is rock solid and easy to work on. It would be nice not to have to pull the cab off to work on an engine wouldn't it?

Actually there is. How many people do you think cummins would upset if they changed their inline 6 design to a v8? Diehard cummins fans like the fact that it's an I6 design. You might get a few that don't care or will get a v8 cummins anyway, but the diehards I don't think will like it.
I don't have anything to back it up, but if the design works and people like it, why change it unless CAC policies demand that you do.
