how do i find out what year my 429 is?

how do i find out what year my 429 is?

I bought a truck with a 429 in it. it had R84TS AC Delco plugs in it. I want to change the plugs but am not sure what year it is from.

check the casting number on the heads .. stamped right below the valve cover , above the exhaust manifold
C8VE-- 1968
C9VE--- 1969
Dove --- 1970 and some 1971
D2VE ---1972
D3VE -- 1973

k its a 68. It has a 353901 Crane RV Cam, new timing gears(not sure what kind). I want to change the intake and carb, any recomendations? also anyone know what horsepower this would be running?

That cam is a step above the stock factory grind.

That combo should make about 325 to 350 HP with unported cylinder heads. If it is rebuilt you would have dished pistons to get static c/r down to about 9.3 to 1.

Performer intake
Holley 750 vac secondary carb
properly curved distributor
headers and dual exhaust

Should get you near 375 HP.

Port the heads and add another 25 to 50 HP depending on cam choice.
