remove O2 sensors?

I was chatting with a friend after ball practice and he was telling me that he removed the rear 02 sensors on his 99 150. He put glass packs on after the first cats and just unplugged the rear O2s and pulled the second cats. He says his CEL doesn't come on. Is this possible?

If his light doesn't come on, its probably because his light is burned out. Putting glass packs in in place of cats is not only illegal, but glass packs don't flow terribly well, they are more restrictive than the cats. People think of cats as some restrictive grid that limits airflow, but that really isn't true. Your exhaust contains unburned fuel which has energy potential. When it passes through a catalyst, the unburned hydrocarbons react with oxygen and complete the burn, This releases heat which causes the gases to expand and move faster. Since these gases can't go back the way they came, the result is that the exhaust comes out of the back of the converter going hotter and faster than it went in. This action causes the cat to draw the exhaust through itself. Can't say the same for a glass pack, which is just a restriction.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Your truck with cats produces more torque and probably gets better gas milage. Just keep it properly tuned, and those cats will outlast your truck.
