Yeah the woman is picking all the colors haha. I would have painted the whole house black inside and out if it was up to me, but it isnt
Basement, after alot of research and calls, we went with ICF. Was a close comparison, and after talking to many people that have been in the biz for years and years, ICF was a better overall choice.
It was like pulling teeth to try and get anyone to send us a wood basement quote, I personally called over ONE HUNDRED people, and in the end got two quotes. One was so incomplete it wasnt funny, and the other one was for over 50 grand!
In the end we chose a local guy, he is gonna do everything, excavating, the floor, in floor pipes, you name it. 36 grand is what its gonna cost.
And lemme tell ya, I sure learned alot more then I ever wanted to know about building a basment lol.
My bad I meant just guys that have worked with houses for years, that biz haha. I dont know how long icf has been around for..?
It was really tough to get a wood basement quoted, and believe it or not, guys around here didnt seem to know a damn thing about having wood in the ground.
Someday if we are ever at a meet I will tell ya more stories about that, some of the BS I heard! Im glad I asked ya before though, just from the stuff you told me about, and a little researching online, I was able to tell right away if a basement guy knew what they were doing or not.
i'm glad i could help even if a little. honestly i think if money is no object, the ICF is a decent way to go, but there's things i would do to ease my mind as for the structure and insulation value of it...

hope you enjoy your home!!!
Well money is always an issue as we are like everyone else and like to save as much as possible!
Now as for stuff that you would do to ease your mind, im all ears! We dont have a hole dug yet, and every contractor we have hired has been all ears also when we tell them about our ideas!
Nice house, I like that colour too. What`s the square footage?
Too late to reconsider a wood basement I suppose, I really like our wood basement and for sure would do it again.
Yeah Morris i would have liked to give a wood basement a shot too, but it just wasnt happening. Icf wont be bad either, just a little more pricey, so the shop might have to wait a year!
House is 1200 square foot, then gonna have a full 1200 square foot basement. At first we had wanted a 15-1600 square foot, but most of the plans we looked at, the extra footage was an extra bathroom. Sandi also didnt wanna go to big, cause she said thats too much house for her to clean haha.
I gotta be honest, i didnt pick the color, and I would have picked something else. ive never been a huge blue fan, but it doesnt look too too bad, I guess!
I did ask for black siding, but that was a no go haha.
I thought it was a dark blueish grey though I like this blue as well. No black for me either as I think it would be too hot if we ever get summer though in winter it might be fine.
1,200 sq ft is a good size, a little bigger than ours which is just a touch on the small side.
I dont think your house is small at all Morris! I think its the perfect size actually, not so big that you have too much extra room, and not small so your cramped. Thats exactly what we were going for (that and then we would be able to spend money elsewhere!)
It`s close enough and for what it would cost to add on it just isn`t worth it.
I found a deal on some used galvanized sheet metal that I`ll have to try to check out. I just might build another small storage building, something like 32 X 40 if I have the time this year. Two new and fairly big shops went up just down the road last year, seems it`s my turn this year.
Have you ever checked out one of those shop packages from places like mcdiarmond lumber, warman homes, etc.?
My dads cousin just down the road from us got a 32x40 pole shed set up at his farm (in a day and a half it took the guys!) for something like 12 grand.
Might be easier then building it yourself, although if ya built it yourself you would really save some cash!
