Auto Hub Position

Hello,

I have a 2001 V-10 4x4 that I have a question on the locking hub position. This is my first Ford and my first anything with locking hubs. In the manual it shows the hubs being turned clockwise to the auto hub mark. Mine have no marks that I can find but they are turned clockwise. Is this the correct position for everyday driving?

Thanks,

Mitch

No, it's in the wrong position. You are locked in 4WD at the front axles.

In my owners manual it shows on page 134 auto to the right and lock to the left. I can find no markings on the hubs but they are turned to the right.

Yes ,when you look on the drawing the LOCK position is on the left and AUTO is on the right. But there's a position "dot"to where you have to move the **** to get LOCK or AUTO.So if you want to get to LOCK you go right, and AUTO you turn left.
Bit confusing looking on the drawing I agree.

Now I'm confused...I have the same issue. Turn counter clockwise for normal driving and clockwise for lock?

Click on this picture closely and you can see auto is counterclockwise to the dot, lock is clockwise to the other dot.

It is wrong in my manul too. Not a "better idea by Ford" because they screwed up a lot of people. Cleary shown here: http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/doc/allube.pdf

After doing some research I agree with ZBIGBIG19TH because it is confusing. The manual is 1/2 right because it has the 2 captions switched above the drawing. (See my link here).

If you really get stuck jack up one wheel and spin it if you see the axle and U joint behind the hub turning you are locked. Other option is just to try turning the U joint by hand with the wheel on the ground it will not turn if the hub is locked

Would it hurt anything by driving it in the locked position?
