Yep, Chase is right..

Oil pickup tube has two bolts that connect it to the front cover.. The front cover has to come off and the only way to do that is pull the engine.

These engines are not that tough to pull though, as long as you have a place to do it and the right tools (and a buddy is very helpful).

I have pulled mine 3 times since last summer. I can have it out in under 3 hrs with no help.

Actually, you can get the front cover off without removing the engine. I didn't try to get the pick up tube out with the motor just jacked up, so I don't know if it could be snaked out of the pan without removing the engine.

You can get it off yes, however putting it back on to seal it would require removing the oil pan, sealing it to the front of the block, and then the pan to that. However to remove the pickup TUBE, no you dont need to remove the front cover????

Hmmm never heard that one before since you have to remove the pan too.

You could very well be right, just doesn't seem possible..

Here is my engine with the front cover and pickup tube attached. Obviously the pan goes over that and is sealed/bolted to the block. There is no getting around having to drop the pan to get to the bolts on the pickup tube.

If I every have to pull my motor I'll get a loan to do some nice upgrade and clean this baby from top to bottom and replace as many seals as possible (within reason) to avoid any future leaks.
