I know its amazing how many of these motors r out there and our dealerships act like they dont know what the problem is. In my reading on this issue and talking to a ex ford tec is to have the plugs pulled out one at a time and check threads for damage and debris. I was told that when they break off in the cylinder sometimes chunks get left behind and get trapped in the threads of your new plugs so no matter how much torq it still seeps through. The ex tec told me there is some kind of thread sealer or gasket type maker stuff that a small amount could b used on the spark plug to help. It was high temperature and safe around fuel. I dont remember the name of it but ill try to get ahold of him to let u know. Im sorry i havent been much help. Good luck

Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions on what the issue could have been. I had a very determined mechanic that read everything people wrote along w/other internet articles. We of course changed the spark plugs and then the o-rings but the smell continued on. We could a least isolate the area of the smell. Mark continued to go back to the fuel rail for the following reasons: 1) it is suppose to be manufactured out of steel but it was pitted, 2) at the connections it was green which indicated there is plenty of copper in the piece. 3) when he called his distributer and asked the cost and if it was available the distributer stated that he didn't think so bcs it's never asked for but he had 115 in stock. (For something that people aren't asking for that is a lot of overhead). Therefore, he changed the fuel rail and the smell is gone. He found a very small pin hole leak in it that couldn't be detected just by feeling for liquid
etc. The fuel rail is not inexpensive but for me it was the issue. I hope that this will be helpful to someone else out there. Again, thanks for the assist.

Thank You for the info

This forum was a lifesaver. Same boat as most of you. Had the one piece Champion put in my 08 SCAB. A week worth of toxic fumes later and had the dealer swap for Motorcraft off the shelf plugs. Voila. No smell and better performance

I am having this same issue but other then an oil change and some injector cleaner I haven't done ****. Now I did recently do an oil change and added some Lucas which seems to have been a bad idea so I'm gonna drain that and just add some 5/20

But I'm at a loss. It sounds like I may have an exhaust leak it makes the poof sound at idle so I'm gonna get that looked at. Any info would be good

And mine also has a rough idle some of the time when I'm at a stop light or drive thru

Had cracked exhaust manifold, $ 3600.00 later (add $100.00 for new plugs) Has the bad gas smell. Ford dealer that done the work has had the truck for a week now with no cure........yet! I know they checked the torque on the plugs, said they did anyway. I guess I will call them tomorrow morning and give them the info I have just read. Good luck everyone (I think I will need it!)
