Just wondering if any of you guys might know how much longer the lighting will be produced? I heard somewhere that it was about over for the lighting, but then agian i read that major changes for body style and power were expected in 2003. Just curious bc i'm considering a lighting in the next year or so. Thanks

 

Its not going away any time soon. Ford even increased production this year due to the demand.

I was told then that production would be tripled between '99 and '03, so the step-up for '01 is a step in that direction. They also said production was going to continue through at least 2005.

Given the number of '00s (yes, there are still new '00s out there available for purchase) still languishing in dealer lots, I don't think the '01 production had much to do with demand. I think it had to do with SVT's overall ambition of becoming more visible and selling more cars. I'll be surprised if they carry out their "triple production" goal, too. Just not enough people wanting to fork over the money for the truck, combined with dealers reaming people on the '99s and '00s.

So much for the SVT hallmark of "Exclusivity."

I will be selling my 94 at the end of this year to make way for a new 02. I called SVT today to see when the 02's were coming out & was told that they had no idea & wouldn't even tell me if they would have a 02 Lightning run. my dealer has no idea & he is an SVT dealer. Hush- Hush stuff, ya right

I think the fact that you're seeing the Lightnings on the dealer lots corresponds to the fact that the dealer likes to mark them up $5000+ over sticker in some cases.

I can venture to say that the 00's on the lots are trade-in's for the 01's.

I read at Edmunds.com that SVT is not only continuing production but also planning an update to the Lightning for the 2004 model. Can't wait to see how they plan to make it even better.

 

I have seen specs on the 02 Lightning; maybe at Edmunds.
I am not sure, but I read it will have 5 more Hp than the 2001 due to intake porting and something about another change in the wheels. Other than that not alot of changes.

 

well think of what's happening? who wants a 360 Hp lightning, when they can wait a year and get the 380 hp with a few body mods??
