well here's your update guys,
got it pulled apart and everything looks decent... very dirty (pennzoil motor acording to ches) but decent. newer head gasket was put in so people have been in it fairly recently. the lifters are loose, very loose, cylinder walls do have a slight ridge but no scoring so far (havent pulled pistons or crankshaft yet...) on the look out for the usual new rebuild parts ( oil, water pump, etc etc) and for some better heads. not going to buy anything untill sure of the block's condition, but keep some eyes out for me... ches took a few pictures including a acorn in the intake lol, make that acorns... just keepin you guys in the loop

We got Allen's block apart tonight things look good and tight. I think he should have just cleaned it and ran it the way it was but he decided to go all the way with the fresh build. However we found that is already has .30 over pistons. Just now thought I should have looked a the bearings to see if they where standard or not.
If the block needs to go .40 over. Can you run .40 over sized rings with the .30 pistons. I if I remember right .40 and .50 piston are a odd size and would be cheaper to go .60 pistons
IS .60 to much for a daily driver?

hrm... 1974 fullsize/galaxy.... IF thats correct that means in reality we know jack **** about this motor now... i was under the impression it was from a 78 150/250 f-series pickup.... well now we know right! and i've gotten an answer about going .040 over.... see the 80-86 topicless thread..
now we just need to see how much they've got to cut and if we can use .010 rings on .030 pistons in .040 cylinder walls(the numbers hurt my noggin lol)
also i have no idea what the head #s are... some fool forgot to take one home lol... i'll be out there somtime soon and we'll find out then... i MIGHT take a set of those 302 heads off your hands...
well i'm considering puttin the whole project on hold after i pay the machine shop bill and fix the olds, buy some guns, fix the AC/heater issue, and fix the speedo finnally!... and perhaps even the gas tank while i'm at it... what do you guys think?
