'52 F-1 Interior Firewall Cover ???
I hope to get paint on the cab within a month or so. Starting to think (and price) all of the items I will need to finish out the interior (seat cover, headliner, floor mat, dash *****, re-chrome the dash trim, new glass, steering wheel, etc.). It is all starting to add up quick!
So far the only thing I have found to cover the interior firewall is an ABS cover that sells for about $175. I am sure the ABS cover is nice, but since the original was mostly cardboard and tar paper material, I sure hate to spend that kind of money on an upgraded plastic firewall cover.
Have any of you smart (and thrifty) FTE forum members come up with any other alternatives to cover the interior firewall that you could share?
Thanks,
Fred

when i laid carpet in my truck i purchased some "home" carpet(its really thin and looks good tho) and let it go from behind the seats to up the firewall. there might be a pic in my albums where you can get a glimpse of it. good luck.
yeah, i just looked, theres one that was taken with a fisheye lens, you can see the firewall in that pic...

Firewall cover
Ross is right with the post history; I ended making mine from PVC, 1/8 thick that as recommended from the FTE I bought from a local sign manufacturer, roughly 40 bucks. I used the old one as a template and heated the material with a heat gun as I applied weight to the recessed portions. anyway I posted a picture in my gallery under cab mods I think. I have "tweaked" the cover a couple times since, to conform better to the firewall, as I bolted it in place. Hope this helps. I may use the same material for the headliner, using template Ross was gracious enough to scan.

Insulation
Ross;
The insulation is from the Crown Vic donor, headliner. I used upholstery spray on glue to fasten it to the firewall cover, after forming it to shape. I also put a 3/16" layer of foil covered insulation directly to the firewall. I hope this will offer good heat and noise immunity.
Going to finally use the template for headliner you sent me; as a pattern to form the headliner out of the same PVC material.
Tom
Hint: the foil covered insulation has a grey "wool" insulation that just doesnot like to be drilled through, it gathers on the drill bit. I solved this by using a heated awl, brakeline tube, pipe, conduit; depending on the size of hole needed through the firewall and cover, heated it with torch and melted through the PVC and insulation.

thanks, great suggestions
I wanted to thank you all for the posts. Great suggestions. I actually did a search on "firewall" about a week ago and missed two of the ones Ross posted above (there were over 250 hits so there was much to read through)!
Thanks for the help... Now to try a few samples and see what I like!
As the cab progresses, I will post some pictures of the final firewall result.
