Center support bearing...one more time!

Okay, I'm getting ready to replace the center support bearing on my '73 F-100's two piece driveshaft. It looks like I'll mark all the pieces first for later re-alignment, then drop the rear most shaft. Then I'll unbolt the u-joint at the tailshaft and unbolt the center support from the frame to drop the front shaft.

Now, to get the bearing out of the rubber cushion....what?? Then it looks like the bearing itself will have to be pressed off the front shaft....or can I simply knock it off with a brass drift and hammer (after marking the original position)?? And can I knock the new one back on, or this another press job?? Has anyone done this?? Am I in the ballpark. I've done a lot of u-joints in my time, but never one of these! Thanks, Polkat.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Sep-02 AT 08:26 AM (EST)]The rubber and the bearing and the bracket are all one piece. Press off the old bearing and press on the new one back to the same location. The some part stores my even do it for you. Press it on less of a chance to damage the new part.
