I'm not much of a fly fisher but I do enjoy it. When I want to catch an actual fish we go out to a little lake in the area. Never not caught one there. A few guys from work here do the salmon fishing thing. I couldn't imagine catching something that big.

Biggest salmon that I have caught was a 30lb spring, but it sure felt bigger then that

Thanks Jason.

I know a guy that wants to buy a new F350 crew cab, long box truck, and get it with the 5.4 motor like you have.

How do you feel about the power of your truck?
What sort of HWY gas mileage do you get?

Would you buy it again, or opt for a different power train if doing it again?

Thanks

I'll give you my two cent. Just cause I can.

I had a 5.4 in my F250 SD. It was not overly powerful although it did pull my 5th wheel. Jason's vintage of 5.4 does have more power. Fuel mileage is not the greatest, or at least not the one I had. Similar to the v10 I have been told. While it wont pull like a v10 or diesel it is one very strong engine and it will serve well.

OK Jason you can comment now.

Don't you just love Chapter Leaders that butt in when ever they feel like it.

The power is good up to 3000lbs cargo. Stock, it was a little low on power when towing 8000lbs. I haven't pulled that much since I got the SCT programmer, but I know it will make a big difference. While towing 8000lbs, it was more then capable, but I did have to wind it up to keep speed on the hills and some hills would slow it down. Keep in mind that I ussually tow horses and want to give them a smooth ride.

Empty HWY mileage is 15L/100kms, 16mile/gallon US, 19mile/gallon CA. Factory tires were around 20mile/gallon CA.

I am super happy with the powertrain, seems to be bullet proof.

I would buy it again. The mileage, operating cost, and purchase cost of the 5.4L Torqshift is good. If was going to tow alot more, then I would consider something with more power.

Also, the SCT X3 programmer from 5Star Tunning really improves the power and driveability. I would probably recomend it for your V10.

Thanks Chris, and Jason, I appreciate the input from BOTH of you.

He is about 98% sure that is what he is going to buy, I just do not want him to regret it afterwards is all.

Thanks again.

Does your friend tow much? I have never driven a 2V 5.4L, so all I know is that the 3V has more power. I think the new transmission helps as well. I would feel comfortable towing up to 10,000lbs with my 5.4L, but would want more power after that. The tow command system works seams to work pretty good, but the SCT programmer has made it alot better.

He tows a race car on a trailer some, and a medium sized boat sometimes.
But he does have a camper that is nearly like mine to carry also.

I don't imagine that the race car weighs too much, so I would think that would be ok. It won't get the best mileage, with the camper on and the car behind, though

I would guess his car and trailer totals about 6,500 to 7,000.
Camper is maybe another 3,000.

Yeah, it will handle it fine, but it won't climb hills too fast. I would seriously recomend a programmer to get a little more power out of it.
