No spark at no. 2 & 6 cylinders
Hi I have a issue with my workvan that is driving me nuts. I have a 2001 E250 with a 4.2 V-6. 92,000 miles.
I threw a couple of codes indicating running lean left and right banks. I have begun tracking down vaccumm leaks, but here is the deal thats has me stumped, the number 2 and 6 cylinders have no spark and the others that are firing leave the plugs black soot on them like the spark isn't hot enough.
The plugs and wires were changed about 3 thousand mile ago. I did changed out the coil pack but it made no difference. My questions are. Is it possible the PCM is shutting down those two cylinders because of the lean codes thrown?
I was also wondering where does the coil recieve its signal from to fire the respective cylinders?
Thanks for any help any of you can give, I hate working out of my pick-up.

Hey, check out the "bucking/hesitation 4.2l v-6" thread and find the link for the isolator bolts & intake plenum gasket replacement procedure. It may be of use to you. Moreover, I actually had a few random misfire codes pop up on my 4.2 despite having replaced the plugs and wires shortly beforehand. Upon changing them today (with high quality components), it purrs like a kitten and no longer pulls any codes. Never underestimate the simple things...at least that's what I've learned so far. Lastly, I read where plugged cats can cause excess back pressure resulting in combustion failure...just a thought. I think you can get the fiberless Magnaflows at Autozone for about 250.00 per bank.

Thanks Dr.Ron,
I had done a tune with OEM wires and plugs about 3000 miles ago. I have also since then replaced the plenum gaskets and isolator bolts and even though I am running on 4 cylinders its running much better.
Today I took my truck in for service (Diesel) and mention my problem with my van to my service writter, he told me to how check for a pulse signal to the injector and report back to him with what i found out....got power to the injector but no pulse. so we'll see tomorrow
Thanks again for your reply
