What's in your junkyard toolkit?

Alright folks, I'm brand new at this. My sweet baby 1980 custom f100 flareside has been a workhorse while restoring my house. Now I'd like to start learning how to pay it back for all its service.

I'm heading out on my first trip to the junkyard (item 1 is a new bench seat). So my question is, do you have a "standard toolkit" that you always take with you when you go hunting in the junkyard?

If you had to tell me "make sure you take ______ with you" what would that be?

Thanks for your help and patience with a newbie.

I usually take one of those roll up screwdriver kits that have all the differant kinds of tips EI: Square tip, Torx ect... a socket set that goes up to at least 3/4 in a 3/8 Drive, or 1/2 in. drive if your going to be pulling some big stuff. a door panel pry bar. big and small crescent wrenches. Vice grips, channel lock pliers, wire cutters.. box of tooth picks, pack of gum and some rubber bands(never know when your going to have to mc giver a cherry picker up to pull a motor)

I just take a craftsman tool box with all the sockets from 1/4 all the way to 1/2in and that has some screw drivers in it along with some wrenches. Unless you know your gonna pull something big you dont really need to bring anything special.

I usually take a look at my truck before hand, and I make sure to bring what I need to get the part off.Sometimes i'll bring extras just in case I find a good deal or two.So my kit usually includes Wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers,pb blaster,a couple blocks of wood(you never know),and DEFINITELY a gallon of water for the hot Florida sun.I've gotten heat exhaustion twice out in yards over the summer, and I don't want to go through that again.

my kit consists of a complete set of sae and metric wrenches. screwdriver with removable tips, different tips, some vice grips, pocket knife, and really importantly one of those really really cheap socket sets where you get a 3/8 drive ratchet and 1/4 adapter that costs about 5 bucks on sale at auto zone, and a stanley socket set that i watch like a hawk (not worth alot but i like em ok enough not to go missing )

the idea is to bring your junkiest tools so if there lost ....or stolen be illegals your wont be really pissed.

My local u pull your own parts place reminds me of a prison yard any more.

Ok I already love you guys! Thanks so much for the quick reply. And clearly I'm gonna need a whole new set of tools as all mine are geared for house lovin' vs. truck lovin'. Socket set, vice grips, screwdrivers and 1 prybar: check! Everything else is on the "to buy or borrow" list!

Thanks so much for the welcome y'all!

and uncle.stosh glad i got in on your good side...no "stepside" for us! what? do i have a freakin chevy?!! no way man

And now photos of my baby:

I've seen guys there wheel their tools and parts around with a wheel barrow. They have carts you can rent at the ones I go to but the wheels are too small for the stone ground. I always say that I'm gonna bring a wheel barrow the next time I go but always figure its too much trouble. Then when I'm there, I wish I had one. Next time I go, I'm gonna bring a wheel barrow.

I have a pair(metric and SAE) of dogbone wrenches with rotating heads, so it's like 8 wrenches in 1 and then a screwdriver kit.

Can't go wrong with a little percussion tuning. Dead Blow and a baby sledge. It's just good clean fun!
