Question about batteries

Through testing I found my driver side battery needs attention. The po just replaced pass side batt before I purchased truck with a Motorcraft (850 cca). Why he didn’t do both at the same time I don’t know. But driver side doesn’t look very old, it’s a Motorcraft 850.. Question is, do I just replace it with the same Motorcraft battery or ? My buddy is an Optima dealer, so I can get those cheaper, I think. It seems like I read somewhere, it is recommended to replace pass side with an Optima yellow top?

Wow! I figured there would be a hundred different opinions on batteries. Bottom line, I was just wondering if I should go with a regular replacement or an Optima.

There's about 1,000 opinions in this chapter, just use the search function of the forum to find them. there's some going on right now in the Superduty chapter.

Well, I'll bite: General opinion is to replace both batteries at the same time with two of the same type and strength - a stronger battery paired with a weaker one will have the strong one always "charging" the weaker one, which weakens it. For the 6.0, the stronger the better... I'm not a fan of Optimas at all - there are better batteries out there for your truck. If you stick with the Motorcrafts buy TWO... And make sure your charging system is up to the task as well. IMO a 140A alt is minimum for our engine...

Thanks, I always heard, buy two at the same time for reasons mentioned above. I’ll keep researching.

Just my .02 I would buy a pair of either the Odyssey 65-PC1750T or the Northstar NSB-AGM65 batteries. Good luck, Russ

I just bought 2 from advanced online and saved 25% on each by placing 2 orders ( save code it will work again) plus had a couple save $20 coupons it worked out to be like b1g1f so far so good. Only been a few weeks and like most batteries now 3 year free replacement

Optimas are garbage, they were better before production got moved to Mexico. Interstate owns Optima iirc, see if he can hook you up with Interstate batts. Good luck.
