1978 Ford F-150 ranger

I have a couple of questions. I have a 1978 Ford F-150 ranger. There is a side mount fuel tank but hose is cut off and ducked taped. Think this truck has the wrong bed on it. Some one cut of the side of the truck bed and put a new one on. The only problem with that is the fuel door is now at the back of the truck. Can I put a reRear fuel tank in this truck. I don’t know if the ranger is supposed to have side tank or a back tank and this bed dose not fit. Basically I have a mess and I don’t know what is right on this truck.

Welcome to FTE. On the 78 F150, both the short box and the long box trucks had the filler, on the side, behind the rear wheel well. Some long bed trucks had two tanks. In that case, the optional tank was forward of the rear wheel well.

For more information, try asking your question in the 1973 to 1979 portion of the "Older, Classic and Antique Trucks: section.

Don't forget to check out your state chapter too.

So you have a front side tank in the truck but the fuel door is in the rear of the bed right?
I would just get a rear tank with the filler hoses, sender (will need to run the sender wire back to the new location), straps & hard ware and call it done.
Remove the front side tank or add a door to the bed side and the needed dual tank parts for dual tanks setup.

If you go with the rear tank only you might want to look into a larger then factory tank if you will be driving the truck far.
