My 78' F250 has a bouncy hood. What I mean is driving down the road the left and right sides near the front bounce/flex up and down. The hood closes securely and the center doesn't move at all while driving. I didn't see any rubber bumpers near the front corners either. Is this normal? Is there a way to cure this?
If you dont have rubber stops on the corners of the hood it will bounce.
In many of these cases, the rubber has been compressed and becomes hard or brittle and is no longer effective.
Other cases where the rubber is present means that the hood latch is just too high. IN these cases, many owners have to give the hood the "Ford" tap to get the hood to pop. You know the slight tap on the front of the hood once the latch is being released? Yeah, this is an adjustment problem. Improper tension on the latch is a result of a misalignment.
If you are missing components you will have to replace them before you start your adjustment.
I have a cable activated release inside of my cab, and it took me quite some time to get the adjust ment just right. now I can pull the handle, and the hood pops just right, but it was not the quickest task to perform.
No bounce, and the hood opens like it was new.
Those are the ones. Nice use of pics by the way.
If those become hard and no longer effective, they will no longer hold tension.
Look into the gap between the hood and the fender and see if the little bumpers are touching the inner fender. If not them test the rubber, and then start with alignment.
You may just have the center latch too high.
Nah, just a couple of 1/2" bolts on the latch. Loosten the bolts, and drop the latch a little, and the hood will drop. Now this will place more tension on the spring, but this could be a good thing.
Dont drop the latch too far, and make sure it is even. You will see some score marks in the paint to use as a reference.
This is time consuming, but not difficult.
Unless, you drop it too far, and put too much tension on it, it ill still pop open with ease.
