Let me see your fabricated cab mounts!

I'm nearing the point where I'll be replacing the floor and front cab mounts in my '73 and I would like some input.

First, does anyone have a safe course of action as far as replacing them without having to take anything else off? What's the best way to support the cab, etc...

Second, can anyone show me pics- or better yet, plans- of some mounts that you have fabricated? I want something that's a bit more substantial than the replacement ones out there. I would also like to have something "open" that can be washed out easily to prevent rust.

Thanks.

i dont know if this helps but you could fabricate a "U" shape out of 1/4" plate frome the side it would kinda look like this "l_\" and from the front it would be "l_l" sorry for such a crude drawing, but text doesnt lend it selff to making pictures very well...

I dont have any pics, nor have I ever had to replace the cab mounts on the cab itself. I did in a Chevy S-10 once but thats no help to you. But I have had to repair and plate the tops of the cab mounts that are rivited to the frame- on two different Ford trucks. The bushings hold moisture around the steel frame mount and rots them out too. You may find that in yours also once into it. When I did that '79 Bronco, I unbolted the body(same as your cab up front), used a floor jack to lift one side at a time, then left the body sit a few inches above the frame on jack stands. Felt safe since it was level, steady and sturdy. But in your situation its prob best to take that cab off compleatly, and sit it up on its backside. Its easyer to work on like that- no welding/ cutting upside down and no getting down on the floor to work on it.
