I'm tearing down a 390 for a rebuild , just something to tinker on and eventually drop in my '74 250 .
I removed the main pully , balancer and key , but for the life of me I cant get the darn spacer that goes through the timing cover to come off! It moves forward ( to the front ) about one inch then wont budge!
All my manuals and previous experience with this sort of thing tell me they normally just slide off the crank , this thing wont move! in fact, if I get a good grip on it I can turn the engine over!
Any advice is greatly appreciated, I'm thinking I may just have to take it to a machine shop, hopefully the crank will survive
I have some hi-res pics if anyone wants to see them. I did manage to remove the crank from the engine with no further issues ( save a REALLY stubborn #5 main cap , darn rear main seals! ), as the timing chain was sloppy like a huffy bike and I got it off the cam gear
