tranny stuff

On the way home from work today i stopped for trafic and when i started again the TC would not lock up. the tft sensor was reading about 230-240. THe OD light was not flashing but I pulled a p1280 and a p0603. I just had the batteries out of the truck so I am guesing that is the 603 and not sure about the ICP-1280.

Tranny has about 5,000 miles since I dropped the pan for sonnax shift kit, new filter and synthetic fluid. I blew threw the cooler and that seemed fine(when tranny was flushed) TF level is fine and the fluid looks brand new-red.

Any ideas what I should check?

kindof sounds liek it was trying to lock and slipping based on your temps. that is crazy heat!!!!! may want to try adding a light to the tc clutch ground wire to see if the pcm is commanding it on.

Where would i find the tc wire? I have some small led's --just run 12 volts to the hot side of the light and ground the other to the TC wire?

Heck I'd use one of the small red or green 3/8 and drill it into the bezel--just something else to look at and scare the crap out of others when they ride with me---ooooohhhhhh the scary red light

If the PCM is calling for tc lock then what? If not is the PCM trashed?

What fluid spec was the syn?
If its a SP and newer it could cause the old tc to slip.

Trace the 1280 first.

Ok i cleared up the codes--I changed the power steering pump and gear box and I must have hit the resistor to the ICP and knocked it loose. SO everything was fine when I left this morning(under 35mph) but when I got on the highway it would not lock the TC. Temps started to climb right away and then it threw a 1728 code--something like TC slipage.

What is the wire for the TC lock up on the harness? Can I find it anywhere in the cab? I was thinking I should do as coon said and see if the PCM is calling for a lock up. And then manually ground it to see if it will lock. IF it won't engage what should i do? New TC? and at 182000 that would probably be my excuse to call racerx or bts and get a built one

Manual switching the tc could be a waste of time.
It coded 1728. This means the pcm called for the lock.
Passing the startup self check tells me the wiring should be ok.
Its going to be the tc.
What fluid did you use? (spec)

CRAP! So is it worth taking the chance on a higher milage tranny by just replacing the TC? I would hate to spend 800-1000 on a tc and then have the tranny take a dump and trash that as well. the tranny has been shifting great since I put in the new vlaves and line modulator--there was a 1/2 inch of material on the magnet and some junk in the bottom of the pan when i dropped it.

Its a crapshot on the repair.
If the trans fails after a tc install your looking at shipping and
cut open charges for inspection and flush.

I would build a new unit.

Thanks for your time and help Bill. I saw the rebuild package from racerx but that seems a little intimidating. I think TJ said that they will rebuild the tranny for you, so i'll give them a call. I don't know any shops around here so it be a guess as to where to go. wish I had the 5000 for a bts and be done with it.
i heard someone talking about these guys
eBay Motors: E4OD/4R100 TRANSMISSION FORD, 2WD/ 4X4 CAR/TRUCK (item 200333758529 end time Apr-30-09 03:23:09 PDT)

anyone heard of them? the price fits my budget alot better--but then you get what you pay for. Anyone in the MD area know a good place for a rebuild?
Thanks again

OK never mind about the above link. I searched around and found alot of negative reveiw about them and a good rip from the owners former boss. Talked to bill from racerx and I am pretty sure I will be goining with them. $3250 for their stage one rebuild and $3800 for their stage two. Seems like a good price after talking to some others and i hear nothing but positive feedback from all you guys and some other sites.
