I have a 01 F250 with 7.9. I started downtown this morning and when the trans tried to shift to 3rd it heard a pop and it felt like I had slammed on the brakes. After I got back below about 20 MPH it released and seemed to roll like normal. Upon speeding up again it did the same thing. It will almost lock up the rear wheels when it locks up. It's almost like it tries to go into reverse or something. Any ideas?
1) New
2) Factory Remanufacture
3) Rebuild with life time warranty
4) Rebuilt
My 7.3 tranny failed while evacuating for Gustov while pulling my boat. Probably the worst time it could. There was only 1 shop open and I could not get a Bryans at this shop installed. The shop I wanted to use was closed for the storm. So I took a chance and had it rebuilt to the tune of $4200. It lasted 4000 miles before it failed again. Lost 3rd and OD. Took in back. They replaced (so they stated) the valve body as it was the problem. Then I drove 200 miles and lost 3rd and OD again. So looks like the problem wasn't solved with the valve body AND the transmission has to be pulled AGAIN. This clearly is not a fun do over job for them or me. It cost them $$ and me down time on the truck.
So if you determine you need a new tranny I reco you follow 1 thru 3 above and stay away from 4.
