But I cant find other threads. What kinda gas mileage are yall gettin in your 73-79 4x4's? mostly interested in 79's with the 400 and 4 speed tranny but wouldnt mind hearing input on all others. I will say they I know they suck gas but I am interested in buying one and am not buying it for gas mileage . I just wanna know how much to budget. Thanks!
You can't say oh you will get X amount of Miles per gallon,it all depends on the area you are driving in (Like hills, flat, freeway, etc).
And it also depends on the type of driver you are.
No two people drive the same, some are pushy aggresive drivers, while others are mellow, cautious drivers.
Well,I bid you luck my friend.

I me3an somethin like "i get 10-12 or "I get 11-13 etcc...
That wouldn't be very accurate.
It also depends on the type of fuel, octane level, and how you drive, were you drive, and I get about 15-Miles Per Gallon. (76 F-350 2WD,390,4-speed).
On an un-related note, you might want to change that "me3an" to "Mean".
I get 8-10mpg. Healthy 390 (<20,000 miles on rebuild - hotter than stock), C6, 4:10's, 37" Iroks. I get the same mpg no matter if I'm driving like a mad man or putt-putting along. Also terrain makes no difference, nor if I'm pulling a trailer or not. It's all the same.
If I was at all worried about gas mileage, I'd get a car.
That wouldn't be very accurate.

A couple new words for you. Estimate and Average.
Take a bunch of different, but same equipped F-series vehicles, and test their mileage.
Say you have Ten, F-150, 4x4s, with the 400cid engine, with 4 speeds. Add up all their mileage numbers together, then divide by the number of vehicles tested. In this example, divide by Ten.
Of the people who posted so far...
A: 8-10 MPG
B: 12-13 MPG
C: 10.5 MPG
Round the numbers off to the nearest whole number....
A: 9 MPG
B: 13 MPG
C: 11 MPG
Add them all together...
9+13+11= 33
Now divide that number "33" by three.
Thirty-three, divided by Three, equals Eleven
The average mileage of the first three posters trucks in this thread is 11 MPG.
The more people post their trucks MPG, the more accurate the average will be.
BTW, this is how the EPA does/did it when they put the MPG on the window stickers when they were new.
I got around 12 ave. worst i ever got was 9.with a 78 F250 ,400, auto and 4X4 .In my other 78 f250 351m,auto and 4x4.13 ave.worst 11. both had the 3;55 gears
