1994 f350 turbo idi smoking ?'s
Hello everyone. 2 questions. at start-up my truck emits ton's of diesel smelling smoke. I replaced all glowplugs last AUG and did notice the harness was not in best of shape( could that harness be the issue). second problem is after startup she emits puffs of blueish smoke when I press clutch in. this clears up after I get the rpms up to 3-3500 .
thanks Don

how many miles are on the engine?
does the rich diesel smell go away once the engine comes up to operating temp,or is it really just always rich smelling?
the fuel injectors can be a cause of white exhaust at start up along with a real strong rich fume smell.
the glow plugs do help reduce white smoke and some of that smell, but odds are if the injectors are over 100-150k miles, they're overdue.
blue smoke means she's burning some oil.be it either from rings or it may be time to freshen up the heads.
as a rule, idling blue smoke that clears up when driving is valve seals.
when the rings are the cause, she wont clear up.she'll stink and puff the old blue all the more going down the road under load lol.
