Well friday I was driving down the road in my 1989 F150 (4X4 300l6
T18 ) and the shifter fell/came out of the transmission. This happened inbetween second and third gears . I was able to cost into a parking lot . But the shifter would not go in to the grind box.
Well my uncle ended up towing my home with his D#$@e .
aThe next morning I pulled the floor mat up and partialy removed the bench seat. I was then able to remove the entire top cover off the transmission re-alighn the shift rails and put the cover (shifter all) back on. The moral of the story is check to see if the threded cup is tight on the transmission or you could pull the shifter right out. So all and all it wasnt the most fun I've had with my truck but at least its back together
So what happened to the keeper pin that holds the shifter in place in there? Just curious to see if you had to replace it, and if you did, with what?
I've been searching for the proper pin that goes in there for about 2 years now, ever since my shifter broke the original, and my shifter handle spun around in circles.
I've replaced it with small pieces of hardened rod stock, but these only last about 9-12 months, before needing replacement again (I'm on my thrid one, and it's about to go again)
Anyone else know where to get the proper pin for a T18?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Dec-02 AT 00:40 AM (EST)]You guys wont belive me but luckily for me the shifter pin stayed in the tranny. It was sticking out on the open side of the trans and problely would have fallen into it. I have never messed with the T18 only the NP435 whick I think is a far better tranny. by the way the next time I go to my local junk yard(s) I'll look around for a t-18 and pull that pin for you.
